MS Paint does an incredible job stitching.
First you need to enlarge the bitmap to the total size of the photos, or at
least larger. Then you just paste and reposition (don't click til you get it
in the exact right spot.) Then you can drag any extra white space down to
the size of the combined photos.
Another tip... if you want to maintain quality of jpegs (MS Paint doesn't
save jpegs at high quality) first save as bitmap and reopen in another
graphics editor (such as the free Irfanview) that allows saving as high
quality jpeg. But MS Paint really is surprisingly great at stitching
anything. I use it whenever I stitch, even though I have commercial programs
that stitch too.
