Please forgive me should this have already been covered.

My Windows XP machine has suddenly started prompting me to select a
hardware profile upon startup, even though I have only one (default)
profile.
I have made sure the 'wait' time for the profile was set to zero, but it
still requires me to select the only profile I have.
Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it?

Thanks!!

Start/Run
Type "control userpasswords2"ENTER
Uncheck "Users must enter..."
Click OK and follow prompts.

OP

Right Click on My Computer, Select Properties, Hardware Tab, Hardware
Profiles Button and make sure the following two items are true:
1) You in fact have only 1 "hardware" profile
2) The second radio button titled "Select the first profile listed if I
don't select a profile" is marked.

Jupiter - a "hardware" profile is not the same as the "user" profile and
neither have anything to do with the other.

Thanks for the reply. I have already verified the two conditions are
true.
