my profile got replaced with another profile of same name
and .000 after its name. When I login to the
workstation, all my desktop, documents, email are gone.
XP uses the .000 profile even though i log in as
normal. The orginal profile along with the new one
with .000 appended to end are in Documents folder. Whats
up?

Hi,

Logon as administrator, copy over the needed files and shortcuts from the
old profile to the new one. Did you for some reason reinstall WinXP over
itself?

Thanks for the reply Rick,
I have 4 XPPro machines that do this out of 200 on the
same network. The problem re-occurs about once every 4-
6weeks on the same machines. All machines were from the
same image. The user Smith, for example, logins in one
morning and her desktop, email settings, documents, etc
have all been replaced with default settings for an
account Smith.00 I can go to Smith profile and copy
everything over to the Smith.00 profile, or I am now
trying to copy the profile over to the AllUsers profile.
Copying the Smith profile files to the Smith.00 profile
works temporarily but in a few weeks it will then get
replaced with another

Its a pain and frustation to the users when this
happens. Even though they login with their account
information, a totally different and unspected desktop
appears and items are gone.

XP has not been re-installed on the machines. I am about
to re-image the hard drive and those machines next time
this happens and start over with basic setup.

Strange thing is, no one seems to have heard of this
problem.

Thanks for your help,

ed
