I am trying to load microsoft office xp professional on
my computer and I am getting a pop-up telling me that
setup failed to find a qualifying product on my machine.
What does this mean?

It means that it didn't find a qualifying product - what did you think it
meant - that your system was about to spontaneously combust, or you were
about to be abducted by Zorgians?!

You are installing an upgrade licence - in order to validate the licence you
are required to possess a qualifying product (for XP this means 97 or 2000).
If you do not have a qualifying product then you cannot install the licence
and must purchase the full retail version.

It means you have acquired the "upgrade version". You need to return
the product and purchase a "full version".
