Product Activation after RIS setup

Hello,

I run into the following problem:

I installed the RIS component on a Windows 2000 Server. With the wizard I
created an image of a Windows XP Professional cd. I used an Windows XP
Professional SP2 OEM cd.

I want to install several HP Compaq machines with this image. Everything
goes well. Setup asks me for a Product Key, which is located on the HP
machines. Setup accepts this product key.

After setup has finished. Windows prompts me for Product Activation. Doing
this, the activiation fails.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

Thanks,

Harrald

Hi Carey,

I followed the instuction on the whitepaper.

I manually installed my computer with a Windows XP Professional SP2 cd. I
entered the product key, listed in the whitepage. Setup continues, but
Windows keeps asking for activation. Which cannot be completed with te key I
entered.

Hi Harrald,

I presume you are using a Windows XP Image that you have sysprepped ? If so
you could take out the product key in your sysprep answer file so that it
will have to prompt you for the key everytime you install a pc ( the key
listed on the Side of your HP Compaq System ), then you should be able to
activate using that unique key and not a General OEM key.

To get yourself out of this situation in future Deployments with Windows XP
you could assertain a Volume Licence Edition which is specifically designed
for scalled deployments in the enterprise / business; this version does not
require activation and wont complain after a few hardware chances.

Hope this is of some help,

Hello Micheal,

I haven't sysprepped the image. I made the image with the RIS wizard. I used
an ordinary XP Prof OEM CD.
