I bought a new pc windows xp professional, but when I
come to set up the product key I put in says its not the
right one, how do I sort this out.

Are you using the Product Key that came with the CD you are using?
There are many different varieties and they are not interchangeable.

Look very closely, O-0, G-6, 5-S and others look alike.
Have someone else try, sometimes another set of eyes and fingers can
get it.
