I have tried everything Microsoft suggested to find the product key but
nothing works. The software was installed before I picked up my HP 6000
laptop by the factory or Best Buy. Please help.

What Product Key? The one for Windows Vista is on a sticker on the
bottom of your HP laptop. If the sticker is not there, return the
machine to Best Buy immediately.

If you are referring to a Product Key for a program such as Microsoft
Office, this is on a sticker on the Office reinstallation CDs that came
with your laptop. If you didn't pay extra for Office and didn't receive
any reinstallation CDs, the Office on your hard drive is a trial
version. You will need to purchase the full version.

If you are trying to reinstall Windows on your laptop, then HP provides
a special partition with a recovery image on it. Refer to your manual or
laptop Help files on the hard drive for how to access the HP recovery
process. Also, all HP laptops provide a tool to make physical restore
CD/DVDs once. Use it. You would not be entering a Product Key when
restoring to factory condition on an HP laptop.

So that about covers all my guesses as to what you're trying to do. If
you need more help, go to these links first to see what details you need
to include in your next post:

Your Windows product key is usually available on your Certificate of
Authenticity sticker located on the chassis your machine if your system came
preloaded with Vista, usually at the bottom of a laptop. If your key has
some how become lost or stolen, try RJL's software Windows Product Key
Viewer for product key recovery, supports both Windows Vista x86 and x64:

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is not on the installation CD in any way, shape, or form.
If it was an OEM (factory installed) license, it's stored on a label
that the PC manufacturer affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on
the bottom of a laptop.

Under what specific circumstances, and for what specific purpose are
you entering this Product Key? Are you reinstalling the OS?
