Product key for WinXP Pro

I was given a PC w/ WinXP Pro installed. We are replaceing this PC and want
to install this copy of WinXP Pro on the new PC. I have no install CD or
product key. Can I request from Microsoft a product key to install this copy
on a new PC?

Contact the person who gave you the computer for the CD and Product Key.

First verify if your Windows XP Pro is legitimate:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/invalpk.htm

If it is valid and retail, contact Microsoft for a replacement:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326246

If it is valid and OEM, contact the seller.
Otherwise you may need to buy Windows XP if you want Windows XP.

I would not listen to these guys, Tom.
They represent Microsoft interests, which are not the same as yours.
Now,
1.
Download the key finder from here:
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
or
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

There is nothing secret or illegal about this.
2.
Run it and it will find the CD key your Windows was installed under.
3.
Use it for the next Windows installation.

To bad you do not like good information such asking for the originals from
the person giving the computer.
To bad you do not care enough for the OP and the possibility the
installation may be illegitimate and crippled.
To bad you do not like ways to help prevent problems in the future.

Your ideas are possibly not in the OPs interests.
I know they would not be mine since I would want to know all the facts
instead of only what was used to install Windows.
