HELP!!!! Someone built my computer and installed Windows
XP Pro Edition. I am trying to get the SP2 and it tells
me that it is not registered. I was under the impression
that it was. Can anyone tell me how I can register this
to get the latest updates?

Cyndi;
What is the exact error message?
There is no requirement to register Windows XP.

XP must be activated within 30-days of being installed. How long has it been
on your system and do you not have a Windows Activation option under Start
or on the Taskbar?

Do you have a legitimate copy of Windows?

If you paid for it, then you should have a Wndows XP CD and a product code:
this may be on a sticker attached to the case.

If not go back to the 'builder' and ask for a legitimate copy of Windows
[that is if you have proof of purchase] or else check with Microsoft if it is
a legitimate copy, if not legitimate, then Microsoft will be happy to deal
with the 'builder' on your behalf.

Please see the following:

You receive a "The product key used to install Windows is invalid" error message:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326904&Product=winxp

Run the Windows XP Product Key Validation Assistant:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/windows/default.mspx

If you are getting the following error message when attempting to update:

"The product key used to install Windows is invalid"

You'll have to purchase a new "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform a "Repair Install" using the new Windows XP Pro CD and Product Key
that comes with it. (You cannot simply change the Product Key)
