Product ID number with Microsoft Help & Support

I just purchased a new HP computer in the last month and I've been needing to
talk to Help & Support to ask a question I can't find an answer to. To find
out whether I am entitled to free support, it is asking me for the Product ID
number and tells me to right click on "my computer" to find it. I do so and
enter the product ID number, but it always tells me that it is an invalid
number. I looked on the product key on the side on my computer and they are
two different numbers. I don't know if the two numbers are suppose to be the
same or not, but because it says my product id is invalid, I can't seem to be
able to ask anyone there. Can someone here help me?

If there is a different Product ID on the Certificate of Authenticity
sticker on the physical machine, try using it instead.

I don't think either number will work. If your version of Windows came with
the HP computer it is an OEM version. The OEM is responsible for all support
of OEM software. This means HP is responsible for Windows support on HP
computers.

If you bought your Vista with the Computer then it is OEM version (should
have 'OEM' in the product ID).
If it is an OEM then support is provided by the supplier of the software, in
this case HP is required to provide the support.

There are a lot of people here that can provide help. Please provide as
much information as you can to let us know what the problem is. A statement
that 'it doesn't work' will not get very useful help!

Neither will work since the OP has OEM.
The OP will need to contact the OEM (HP) for support since Microsoft
does not provide support for OEM.
One of the many reasons the OP paid less for OEM than retail.
