Product Id missing, and proof of purchase

I just got Windows XP about, 5 weeks ago. And a laptop. When I was cleaning up all the stuff, The product key and proof of purchase was on plastic I threw away the plastic by mistake,(I just realized it). I had to clear my laptops memory and was going to install Windows XP again, untill I realized I threw away the kay and proof of purchase. What should I do?
