Product Activation again????

Matt U.K.

Hi all,

I've been using Win XP Pro (dual boot with W2K) for about six months now
very pleased with it, decided to upgrade my graphics card. I installed the
card about 5 days ago no problems (XP picked it up and re-booted itself),
tried to use XP yesterday and was prompted to activate XP again???? When I
tried to do this my pc was unable to contact the 'Activation Server' via my
broadband connection or modem. Connection to the internet is fine via W2K,
no changes were made to my internet connections.

I thought XP permitted a number of hardware changes before it would prompt
to re-activate again via Microsoft.

Many thanks in advance

Matt U.K.

Hi,

I've read the web site and came across the text below:-

"If you change the device in any category, you have lost that Yes vote - but
will not lose it any more thereafter if you make changes in that category
again. So, for example, you can install a new video display card every month
for as long as you like."

As you can see, according to the last sentence I "should" be able to change
the 'video display card" without any problem (e.g. reactivation)????

Anyway, I shall try to activate XP again tonight when I get home.

Thanks

Matt U.K.

P.S.

Or have I missed something?????

PA doesn't always work like it is supposed to. Isn't great that a
technology that's designed to disabled your OS, and lock you out of your
computer, works so flakily?

Try activating by phone, and remember this eXPerience the next time some
one want to sell you a copy-protected product, because as long as
consumers keep paying for it, Copyrighted products will just become
harder and harder for us consumers to use.

Not at all. It's been reported by many that the Activation wizard
doesn't see a internet connection, eventhough every other app sees one.

Glad everthing turned out OK! :)

It does; but the card may have pushed things over the edge if you made
earlier changes, and also it can arise if the activation database files
on the machine get damaged. There can be difficulty in contacting the
server if you do it at boot; or let it try to establish the connection.
Get on the net first, then go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
