I recently purchased a new computer with an ASUS P4S533-MX
motherboard, 256M Ram and preloaded Windows XP. I find
that the computer runs quite slowly. I believe this is
perhaps due to the fact that the processor (2.2G) always
shows a 100% useage.

Is this likely to be the problem and what can I do to
remedy it?

G'Day Terence,

It is very unusual for the CPU to maintain a steady 100%, so
you likely have a problem.

You need to identify the Application that is using all that CPU.

Bring up Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and click on the
"Processes" Tab. Click once on the "CPU" Column Heading
and, after a second or two, click a second time.

This will sort the process list, in reverse order, by CPU Usage.

The Top process is the Top problem!!

Unless it's System Idle!

100% CPU usage is a system of SASSER so check for that!
