My windows task manager always shows my cpu usage at 100
percent while I have 256 meg of ram and a 1.4 Ghz AMD
processor with no other apps running. How come it says
100 percent?

In Task Manager under Image Name what is the name of the process that is
using 100% of cpu cycles?
If it is System Idle Process it will typically use nearly 100% of the cpu
cycles...mine right now is fluctuating between 88% and 97%.
This is normal..

The CPU can be quite high without being a problem.
Windows does things on its own (i.e., that weren't started
by you). My computer nearly always shows 100% CPU usage
because I run SETI@home in the background yet my computer
is not slow.

If your computer seems to have been running slower then
perhaps your problem is sypware, parasites etc. I assume
you have an up to date anti-virus program and update and
run it weekly. Do a Google search for SpyBot and Ad Aware
(both freeware) - keep them up to date and run daily.

Thanks Charlie. The only app that shows anything in the
CPU cycles area is Directed.exe with 99.

Thanks again.
