Process not terminating

Hello.
I have Win XP SP1 installed and it started to have a weird behaviour.
If i use Word and when i on't need it close it, on the Task Manager i still
have a Winword.exe process and i have to termnate it manually.
When i do the same with Excel, the problem is similar, but the difference is
that the process is slowly releasing the memory allocated. In this case the
processor usage is 100% and the computer becomes very slow. When i manually
terminate the process, the computer stays ok,

Why does this happen?

Thanks

Luis.

Is winword.exe set to autostart when Windows starts?

Multiple instances of winword.exe can appear.

Note: winword.exe could also be a process which is registered as a trojan.
This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations,
stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. It could also be a
registered security risk and should be removed immediately.

winword.exe should be in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office9 or Office10 or Office11

Hope this helps. Let us know.
