I have been unable to terminate this process. It appears it may be
adware/malware but none of the standard tools have been able to remove it.
(ad-aware, spybot, shredder, etc...) Have run a manual search of the
registry and removed all references but the sucker keeps coming back.

Has a habit of gobbling up the system memory. Ad-aware thinks it is ralated
to Windows Tasks but only symantec live update and scan is scheduled in the
tasks folder?!

Totally stumped and don't want to format the hard drive but am thinking that
is where this ends...

Ideas appreciated

Hi

Is there a 'basms.exe' file in Windows Explorer? If so, right click on it,
select Properties and see if any info. there helps to show where it might
have come from.

This file is a piece of Malware--Trojan. Send a copy of
your install list as there may be a program installed that
references it.

You need to remove it from registry, wait a few seconds
then remove both file and process at the same time. Do not
close registry editor until then as there are probably
multiple references to copy keys and reinstate it somewhere
on system.

Do a search for the file on Mcafee, Norton and Trend Virus
Databases as these also contain worms/trojans.
