Procedural Question about Disk Defragmentation.

Hello. Several weeks ago, the Microsoft Automatic Updates program downloaded
the new SP2 program/upgrade to my computer. Since then, I've been
researching SP2 prior to actually installing it on my computer.
However, today I ran the Disk Defragmenter program to analyze whether my
computer should be defragmented. It reported that I should, in fact,
defragment the current volume on my C-drive.
My question: If I defragment the current volume now, will it negatively
affect the yet-to-be installed SP2 program on my computer in any way? Will
it upset my computer in any other way? (Yes, my computer is behaving a
little slower lately and the "view" of the disk defragmenter showed that I do
need to defragment). Any and all advice regarding what I should safely do
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Defragmenting your drive will have no ill effect on SP2. If anything,
defragmenting your drive prior to installing SP2 would be helpful.

No. But installing SP2 is liable to generate fragmentation itself; I
would do it afterwards. But make sure all is cleaned up first; see
advice on Installing SP2:
