probs with replicas

Hope I'm in the right place. Tried this question on the mulitple user
newsgroup but it didn't get a reply.

I created a database for a community organisation to track sponsors. There
are now several sales people so the database needed to be set up for
multiple users. Being totally self taught (ie, muddled my way through
finding ways to do what needed to be done as I go) I'm not sure what the
best approch is or even if there IS a way to do what I'd like to achieve.

I set up a master database with three replicas, one for each sales person.
I tested synchronisation and it all seemed to work nicely.......until
something I didn't count on happened.

I had assumed (wrongly it seems) that one of the replicas could be updated
remotely (on a computer away from the local network) and then copied back to
the main computer and synchronised. But, it seems this doesn't work, and
while any database modified while on the local network was synchronised
perfectly, the one that was updated remotely and then copied back to the
network didn't. It didn't come up with any errors, just didn't update.

So....can anyone advise me if this is "the way it is" or if something isn't
going right, and what other alternatives I have

Thanks in advance

Your assumption is correct. That's how Master & Replicas are supposed to
work. The part I am not sure about is "... then copied back to the main
computer..."

I have Sales Reps with laptops and they use Replicas on their laptops. When
they come back to the office, they simply connect their laptops to the
network and synchronise and the synchronisation works perfectly.

I guess I may be lucky since I set it up & it worked straight away so I
don't have any experience with fixing replication problems.

Suggest you check Access Help / Access books to see if your set-up is
correct.

Also, re-post your question to the "Replication" newsgroup and see if the
experts on replication can find the problem and refer you to some
replication docs on Microsoft Web site.

I don't know much about replication, Tal, but the person who does is Michael
Kaplan. He used to almost single-handedly answer questions in the
microsoft.public.access.replication newsgroup. It's been quite some time
since I looked at that group, so I'm not sure if he still posts there. You
could try his web site, www.trigeminal.com - I seem to remember seeing an
article there about copying and/or moving replicas.
