Hi, I have a new PC with a D945Gnt Intel board for D processor (3 GB), 2
GB ram and a Maxtor 6V160E0 HD. The problem I'm experiencing is that
every time I start my PC, opening any application takes one minute or
more. I have reinstalled my OS three times with the same results, and I
have always tested for virus, spyware, etc, etc. The machine is clean. I
have found the same question in many other forums, without any possible
solution. Any guide will be very appreciated.

Best regards,
Jorge Perez

Perhaps give examples of the slow apps.
Also, if you are able to start a 'slow' app whilst in safe mode, does it
exhibit the same behaviour?

do you have enough swap file? is your cache set to network or desktop? can
you go into your cmos and ensure that your bios is not being cached and see
if your ram is set to overdrive and or ensure that the ram mhz speed is not
set to something like 100 when it should be 400 or so....

I found that completely disabling Zone Alarm Suite (which I have been
using for almost three years)the problem disappears, closing ZA my PC
comes back to live. How can I trace what happens during the load of
applications when ZA is active?

Best,
Jorge Perez

In that case contact ZA tech - I believe I read of some problem seemingly
caused by a recent ZA update.

If the problem is seen using MS Office apps try turning off the office
plugin

The problem was ZA. I changed to Panda Platinum and now it's working
perfectly. I hope that this can help other persons that use ZA.

Best
Jorge Perez
