Problems with XP and usb2.0 external drive...

Howdy - please help! I have a couple of issues with
external usb2.0 devices and Windows XP Pro...

First a bit of background: I have a recently purchased a
usb2.0 external hard drive which I planned to share over a
small office network [workgroup - not a domain situation].
There are 3 computers on the network, 1 running windows
2000, 2 running XP Pro - all with Nortons Antivirus
installed and the 2 the XP's possibly not entirely service
packed. The drive is connected a machine running XP Pro and
is definetely usb2.0 capable.

On the machine of which the usb2.0 drive is connected, I
can see & use the drive as per normal. However when
attempting to map a network drive on the other computers to
the external drive I recieve an error message "Not enough
server storage is available to process this command"...

Any suggestions on how to fix this? I really need to be
able to access data on this drive on other machines!

The other problem I have relates to an external usb2.0 dvd
burner and the afore mentioned external hard drive... When
the XP machine from which these devices run is turned
off/restarted, the computer seems to forget these devices
exist - you have to turn them off/on once the computer has
rebooted and then it finds the "New Hardware" again... it
then sorts it out and everything works a treat, but i'd
prefer not to have the hassle of doing this everytime I
turn on the computer...

All help is appreciated! Thanks in advance, BJ.

That error message is very misleading. The problem is probably that
an antivirus program has changed an obscure TCP/IP setting. Please
see this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for a likely solution,
specifying a value of 15 for IRPStackSize on the "server" computer:
