Problems with Windows Update and shutdown!

R

Robert Meek

Recently I started having problems being unable to complete the shutdown
process under WinXP SP2. I get as far as "Windows is saving your Settings"
and that's it. The screen just hangs there until I shut the machine down
manually!
So I write here asking for help and was told to go thru Windows update
for a special patch, but everytime I try to hook up to Windows Update, and
whether direct or via the Update shortcut in the menu, IExplorer starts up
and freezes. I can't even move the form or close it! So I have to go thru
TaskManager to get rid of the window! What could be wrong and how do I fix
it?
