I am having a couple of problems with Windows Explorer:

1. The menu bar is MIA. How do I get it back?

2. I am scanning lots of negatives and slides with an Epson 4870 scanner.
I have one folder where the scans are deposited until I can move them to
appropriate folders. Fairly often when I am using Windows Explorer on this
folder, Explorer crashes and wants to send info to Microsoft or just locks
up. It doesn't seem to do this much with other picture folders. Is there
something wrong with the folder?

Thank you for your time and attention.

What do you mean by MIA?

What precisely is your Epson Model? There are several versions of the
Epson Perfection 4870. It probably is worth trying to update your
drivers.

For Explorer crashes look in Event Viewer and post copy of Error Report.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

In Event Viewer there is no facility to print Error Reports. A
workaround is copy and
paste the Error Report into an email, send it to yourself and print off
the copy in your
Inbox or your Sent Items folder.

MIA means Missing In Action, i.e. it isn't there any more. This happened
once before and Microsoft Help told me how to fix it. Alas, I have lost the
email or messenger conversation. I believe it involved deleting a line in
the file that runs windows explorer.

IRT the scanner, it is the pro model with Silverfast Ai. I doubt that it is
the culprit because the problem doesn't come up with other folders of files
created with the scanner. On the other hand, the files are big because I
scan @ 4800 dpi.

You should check that you have the latest drivers:

How about posting a copy of the error report.

For missing menu bar try this link:

That fixed the menu/toolbar problem. Thank you! Any idea what causes that
in the first place?
