I have recently tried to take advantage of the WPA ability on Windows XP and
after trying it grew a little frustrated and decided to stick with my Netgear
settings. I have tried to reset windows networking, per instructions, by
unchecking "use windows to configure my wireless settings" which had worked
in the past but now it seems I have to go through this process everytime I
restart computer or it goes into standby mode. How can I make this change
stick?

Uninstall the NetGear software. In my experience it will leave
drivers in place, but allow you to use Windows to control them.
