Problems with "undo"

After I have been working on my site - the time varies from 15 min to an hour
- and I use the "undo" button to undo something I've just done, it will undo
everything I've done on the page so that all of work is lost unless I hit the
"redo" button. I save my work often but this doesn't matter. The "undo"
button STILL erases everything back to how the page was when I very first
started working on it. The only thing I can do to break the cycle
TEMPORARILY, is to shutdown the program and then start it again. This will
allow me to work for however long it takes for the glich to begin again.
Needless to say, I'm not only getting frustrated but it is slowing my work
down to a snail's pace. What could be causing this, and how can it be fixed?
