Problems with start-up/VGA mode and display

Two days ago, I was deleting some unwanted programs from
my computer. One of them, I can't remember the name,
asked me to restart my computer in VGA mode (I have no
idea what this is...) and I said that was ok, without
thinking it through. I ended up cancelling my decision to
delete the program, as I wasn't even certain what it was.
However, my computer still started in VGA mode, and the
difference I noticed was a smaller screen resolution (800
x 600 I believe) I first tried to set my computer back to
normal mode, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I
then set the screen resolution slightly larger, but now
pages scroll strangely, for lack of a better word. I also
noticed that when I shut down my computer, stand-by is no
longer an option. In addition to that, I am no longer
able to play movies, which I think may have to do with
the change in screen resolution, although I have it at
the same resolution as it was before it was set to VGA
mode.

My point being, I would really like to know how to
disable VGA mode and set my computer back to normal. I
have tried doing this by pressing F8 during start-up, but
nothing seems to change. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you

what kinda of box what kind of software and what kind of
video card. Would help if you put some spacifics in your
question. I have heard of this happening with ati cards
if you have pc anywhere installed. Uninstall pc anywhere
reinstall the ati drivers and it should work. This is
just a guess since you didnt provide any spacifics.

I didn't put any other more than I did because I don't
know anymore. And I hardly know what a video card is, but
I don't think it has anything to do with my problem.

It sounds like you uninstalled your video card drivers. You'll need to
reinstall them again. Get them from the video card mftr.'s website. If
you don't know what a video card is, you should 1) consider having a
professional tech repair the error; 2) buy a "Windows XP for Dummies"
type of book. I don't mean to be insulting by suggesting this. Those
books have an unfortunate name, but they are quite good. Learning
something about your computer will make you happier and more productive
with it.

Good luck,

Malke
