Problems with Standby

Kamal

I recently did a format C:\ and reinstalled windows.

I used to be able to wake computer up by moving mouse or pressing button on
keyboard.

Now this does not happen??? I have to press the power button to resume from
standby. Anyone know how to fix this???

Running XP Pro

By the way my mouse and keyboard are both USB.
Thanks.

Control panel | mice and pointing devices and look at the power management
tab. Allow device to bring compuiter out of standby. Also look through the
Keyboard and USB devices and see if there are any power management options.

These assume it worked before the reinstall. If it never worked there are
options in the BIOS and jumper settings and power supply reasons that can
all play a part in devies powering up again after standby.

Did you install the chipset/motherboard drivers that enable the devices on
your motherboard to communicate with Windows?

Did you install the latest, WHQL certified video drivers for your video
card? This is the most common reason for problems with Standby/Hibernation.

I fixed it.

I found this registry hack

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usb]
"USBBIOSHACKS"=dword:00000000
"USBBIOSx"=dword:00000000

Thanks guys for your replies.

Kamal,

Try going into the device properties for the mouse and the keyboard to make
sure the devices are enabled to bring you out of standby. Right click My
Computer, select properties, then hardware tab, device manager. Click the
plus on Mice and other..., then right click on mouse, select properties,
select power management tab, then check the box to allow the mouse to bring
computer out of standby. Do the same for the keyboard. Let me know if this
works.
