Problems with SP 4 installation

Gus Laugier

I have installed SP4 several times but have had to remove
it due to problems that have ocurred after each attempt.
One of the problems was that the pc would not boot and
would tell me "..following file is missing or corrupted:
WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced ..." On another attempted
installation the pc would not boot up at all after the
initial scrolling of the Windows 2k bar. It would shut
down and start again, and the whole loop would repeat.
I have Go BAck so I just revert to an earlier (pre SP4)
installation.
I am concerned that I could be exposed by not having SP4
and its security patches installed, although all others
have been installed ok.

Any ideas/suggestions please?

Thanks

Gus

Run CHKDSK...
Start, Run, type:
cmd
and hit enter.
Type:
cd \
and hit enter.
Type:
chkdsk /r
and hit enter.
It will say the following:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
Type "Y" and hit enter.
Reboot.

I never install a major service pack on my PC without
running chkdsk /r first.
