problems with saving settings

Whenever I try to open the program, either from my system tray or from the
shortcut on my desktop, it opens setup assistant first. It shows I do not
have autoupdater set. I go in and change this so that I do have it set. I
save the setting. Next time, same thing again. I have tried running the
setup and not running it, no difference. My beta 1 version is current, I
have repeatedly checked for updates.
My current version is 1.0.701. Can anyone help me?

We've got a better fix for this one than we knew about then, courtesy of
Larry Russell.

Rename or delete:

\program files\microsoft antispyware\gcUserData.GCD

That should take care of this problem.

I tried this and nothing changed. Exactly same two problems. Should I try
Engels solution?

After deleting or renaming that file, the first time you start Microsoft
Antispyware, I would expect those same two problems.

However, once you've been through the setup that time, it should not appear
the NEXT time you start Microsoft Antispyware.

If it does not work this way, I would try Engel's solution next, which I can
print below:

1) uninstall Microsoft Antispyware
2) delete \program files\microsoft antispyware and all subfolders
You will lose access to all quarantined items, history, and any custom
settings.
3) reinstall Microsoft Antispyware taking care to be using the latest
downloadable version, and that you are logged in as the administrator level
user who will use the app most frequently.

Thank you very much. I didn't run setup the first time. This time I did and
worked perfectly.

Great--that should keep it happy for long enough that beta2 will be released
before it acts up again, I hope.
