problems with run

Can anybody help,i had problems with wmp and it told me to use chkdsk
utility,when i looked for help on this i was told to go to start,run,and type
chkdsk:/r which i did but a black screen flashed up and went again and
nothing else happened.

Try this;

Go to Start -> Run and enter cmd.exe in the Open box.
Click OK.
This should open a command prompt window.
At the command prompt, enter the following command.

chkdsk /r

Press the Enter key.
You should see a message about having the volume checked the
next time the computer restarts.
Hit the Y key and press Enter.
Restart your computer.

Chkdsk should check your C drive when Windows restarts.

Thanks Nepatsfan,i tried that, the box came up but no command promt,only c documents and my name
 
If the cmd screen looks similar to below, that is the command prompt.

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Account Name>

You should see a window similar to this.

Command Prompt Window

If you don't, click on the Start menu and go to Accessories ->
Command Prompt to open the correct window. Next to your name
there should be a blinking cursor. That's where you type chkdsk
/r. You then hit the Enter key.
