Problems with Remote Desktop....????

I've used remote desktop for a long time now and never had any issues at all.
However, as of late, I am experiencing some troubles with lagging
connections.

On my home computer I have XP Pro SP2 behind a Linksys router and Zone Alarm
firewall. I've opened port 3389 on the router and in Zone Alarm. Windows
Firewall is confirmed OFF.

From remote locations I can connect to my computer and get logged in just
fine. I begin working and things seem fine until suddenly it hangs up for
about 30 seconds, then shows me the red X disconnected icon in the top right,
but immediately connects itself again and I can continue working. I don't
have to actually reconnect...it just connects immediately again and lets me
continue as if it never happened.

This happens a number of times during any given RD session, but I haven't
noticed an exact time fram between occurances or anything like that.

I don't know for sure if this has anything to do with it, but I didn't have
Zone Alarm before. I used to just use the Windows Firewall and RD worked
beautifully all the time. It seems that it may be ever since I installed
Zone Alarm that this started happening. I've completely opened 3389 to all
incoming traffic in Zone Alarm and I've also tried configuring Expert rules
in Zone Alarm to allow incoming traffic to 3389 only from my works IP
address. Either way the same thing happens.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. It's very annoying!
thanks!

I should also include that I run a development web server from this machine
I'm trying to connect to and I also serve Bit Torrents on a regular basis. I
never experience any connection issues with these features. My home
connection is 8Mbit down and 512Kbit up so that shouldn't be a problem at all.
