Problems with new user directory

D

David Johnson

I'm using Windows XP Tablet, and the default installation
created a Administrator account and no others. I created
a new user account that I use for my normal logins. It
appears that all the links for the files all link back to
the Administrator account. In other words, the Outlook
files all linked to the Administrator's directories.
Also any temporary internet files are all written to the
temporary directory. THis causes a problem since
anything that it tries to download and view are not
visible to the normal user unless I open up the directory
in Windows Explorer. Where is the setting stored that
defines where these directories are located? How can I
remap these directories to the proper user account?
Thanks in advance for any help.

The tablet comes with XP Pro.

At the Welcome screen, press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice (should be a button on your
tablet programmed for this key combo). That will bring up the Win2000 style
log on screen. If you have trouble getting this screen, log on to Windows
normally. Go to Control Panel> User Accounts and uncheck "Use the Welcome
Screen" under "change how users log on." Restart.

When the old style logon appears, type in Administrator for the user name.
If any password was used with the account, type that in too. Otherwise
leave the password blank.

Go to Control Panel> User Accounts.

Create 2 new accounts in the Administrator group: One for your daily
administrator tasks (or for everyday use) and a temporary throwaway.

Log off. Then log on to the throwaway account. Use Control Panel> System>
Advanced> User Profiles> Settings. Select the original Administrator
account. Click the Copy To button. Select the other newly created account
as the destination for the copy.

When the process has completed. Log off of the throwaway account.
Log on to the newly created account in the Administrator group. You should
have your start menu, personal files and program access back again.

Use Control Panel> User Accounts to delete the throwaway admin account
created earlier.
