Hi,

I just installed Windows XP Home on my computer. I had Windows ME. The
installation seemed to go alright but now a lot of my old programs don't
work. Also all the stuff that was on my desktop is gone. I can navigate and
find some of my old folders on my c drive, but when I open some of them they
are empty, but should have files in them. Can someone tell me what is
happening.

Thanks

ME was/is microsofts worst OS ever.....Most of the programs in ME are not
compatable to run in xp,simple as that. Also,ME runs in FAT32 file system,xp
runs in NTFS file system.Youre best bet is to boot to xp cd,install a
dynamic xp
installation, which formats the hd & installs xp clean.XP doesnt need or use
any
ME files,so the "upgrade" is kinda running xp but then again, not really..

This might help:

Download and install Restoration or another Undelete program. The more
you use the hd with the deleted/damaged files, the more data you overwrite.

Hi Andrew,

The computer says that my hard drive is still FAT32. Setup gave me the
option of keeping that files system, and I did figuring that would be my
safest option.
