problems with MS Word, Excel, PDF file etc

My PC used to work just fine.

I have a problem with attachments.

Once I open the attachment via Outlook Express an icon for every
attachment gets created on my desktop. If I open the attachment a
second time, a second icon is created on my desk top.

My desktop is filled with icons.

Can any one pls. help me solve this problem.

I have a Win Me, 800 MHZ, 20GB HD and 176 RAM.

Thanks
Tina

Hi Tina,

sounds more like a problem with Outlook rather than Excel, probably you should post your question there.

It kind of sounds like that windows got confused. It keeps track of recently
opened files in a dedicated folder (for me in win98, it's c:\windows\recent).

These are the shortcuts that appear when you click on
Windows start button|documents

Jim Rech posted this to a similar question:

Maybe you can check to see if it's the solution for you.

Re: Icon opens on my desktop up everytime I open a Word doc

I saw Jim's answer. I have the same problem. But since I am not
technical i do not know how to slove this.

I moved the Word program back to MS office. It was somwehere else.I do
not remember where. (For a few days the icons stopped opening up ) I
thought that I had solved the problem.

But now they are back. I still see Word in MS office. But I still get
the icons on my desktop everytime I open a word doc. So I did not do a
good job or complete job.

i checked the properties of the icons of Word docs on my desktop.

It says:
C:Windows\Desktop.

So I guess this is the problem. I am NOT technical. Can anyone help me
solve this ?

FYI: I ran Scandisk, defrag and Adaware/Spybot.

Pls. HELP !

thanks
tina
