Problems with Internet Explorer

For the last few days, everytime I have tried to load the
IE program, I get an error message, saying that Internet
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to restart. It
gives the option to send an error report, and also gives a
check box asking whether or not I would like to reopen the
program.

Regardless how many times I have tried to open IE it gives
the same message. I have tried various virus scans (McAfee
and a few freeware antivirus programs) and nothing was
found. I've even tried a few spyware scanners (Ad Aware and
Spybot) which also gave me no sign of any malicious activity.

I've tried reinstalling IE and that didnt work either.
There was no uninstall executable to be found, so I went
ahead and deleted the IE folder on my HDD and attempted
once again to reinstall IE with negative results. No other
programs seem to be affected at all.

I had thought for a moment that maybe there was a bug
within the program and figured if I were to run Windows
Update maybe there would be an update, but I need to use
Internet Explorer to run the update, and I wouldn't know
where to begin if I manually downloaded the individual
updates/patches.

After all my failed attempts, I thought maybe someone had
encountered this same problem and was willing to lend a
helping hand. If anyone has any information as to why this
might be happening, or how I could fix the problem it would
be greatly appreciated.

I'm desperate guys, as the MSN Games Zone doesnt seem to
work on Netscape Navigator (load times are ridiculous) as
well as a handfull of other sites I frequently visit.

Please if you could get back to me here on the boards, or
emailed me at (e-mail address removed) I would be forever in
your debt.

Thank you in advance,

Check your system for "hijackware".

HijackThis (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip) is the
preferred tool to use, helping to both identify and remove these bad guys.
**Post your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
