problems with external HD

hi,
my pc (xp home edition, sp2) can't start any more. it entered sleep mode
when an external HD was connected and when I restarted it the HD was no
longer there, so it didnt' find the hardware it was connected to and crashed.
Even if I connect the HD the PC has the same problem now, it doesn't start
anymore, when windows is loading it opens a blue screen.
technical infos: ***stop: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xf59964d0, 0xf8b8bfc8,
0xf8b8bcc4). how can I get it working again?
thanks

Hey,

Have you tried repairing Windows using the repair option when booting with
the Windows XP installation cd?

What have you done so far to analyze/correct the problem?
NO sense writing something and getting back an "already tried
that".
