Sorry, that's the MS version no., your screen at the bottom of DirectX will
show the version as 5.03.0001.0904

First of all goto nvidia.com and download the latest drivers for your card,
and then with those installed, go into Direct X diagnostics (go to start,
select 'Run', type DXDIAG and hit 'enter'), and see if any problems are
reported.

The first thing is to increase the amount of RAM. XP needs a MINIMUM
of 256 to run, preferably 512, especially with lots of graphics.

I believe they were talking about the amount of RAM on the video card, and
also, merely having a low amount of memory wouldn't typically cause the
symptoms described.

Sir,
go to -->" Display Properties"--> Settings--> advanced--> Trouble shoot -->
slide "Hardware acceleration" to FULL--> enable "write combining" --> apply,
OK

now install Direct X Again, this will fix your problem, also try in start
menu --> run command --> "dxdiag.exe" and perform direct x test for agp
acceleration and direct draw.

The 'write combining' setting is a performance setting isn't it? If anything
it should be left off until the problem is fixed.

Its ok, I have sorted it out now!
all I had to do was download my ASUS A7V8-X Motherboard drivers from the
website and now its sorted! thank you all for your help!
