Problems with corrupted OS

Thank you for the answers - I'll give them a go after work tomorrow.
I did manage to get regedit to work in safe mode but in other modes it
states that the Administrator has disabled access rights - I'm assuming, as
I'm the Administrator, that the infected file has done this. I don't use a
password when I'm using home PC so I don't see how it could be barred. Many
thanks.
