Problems with CIDAEMON.exe

I have had huge memory spikes that I have finally traced
down to the cidaemon.exe process. This exact problem was
described in a knowledge base but it was for windows 2000
running Index Server 2.0 I assume XP uses the newer 3.0?
Does anyone know how to limit the ammount of memory that
cidaemon can grab at a time. This fix was release for
2000 but I cannot find anything for XP home.... Please
let me know if you have had this problem of know how I
can fix it. At this point my computer is unusable the
spikes are consuming all resources.

Hello David!
You can go into the services and turn indexing off.It
will help.

This is used with the Indexing Service. A big resource hog. If you don't use
Search all the time, turn off the Indexing Service. I use Search a few times a day
and I have the Indexing Service turned off.

that I have to turn off that service, but evidently it
doesnt provide any valuable services? I can still search
and navigate files. Does it do anything else? Thanks

What it does is provides for indexing of formal documents (doc files) so
you can do faster, more efficient searches for Text contained in them.
Which is usually not worth it unless you are in a real Office with a
large library of documents needing reference. I have it off anyway
