Problems with CD Writer drivers.

Having purchased a new PC system with Windows XP (Home
Edition) preinstalled, I decided to try install and run
the software for 2 CD writers, one already internally
installed and the other an external Hewlett Packard
connected via USB.

I first installed the software for the USB writer
(Adaptec Direct CD but after browsing through some
magazines devoted to Windows XP and reading that
installing software for 2 CD Writers could seriously mess
up Windows XP I decided to uninstall the software.

I then installed the Nero CD burning program from "Ahead".

Although the software does work in a fashion, I am
experiencing many problems.

The main one being that I cannot get the InCD UDF format
to work at all.

On initial start up I get the pop up warning that the
Direct CD drivers have been disabled as they could cause
conflicts within the operating system.

I thought I had removed all the previous software/drivers
with the add/remove utility but obviously some have been
left on the system.

I have been told that the only way to remove these
drivers would be to edit the registry using regedit but
there are so many files on the system relating to CD
writers I do not know where to start.

Is there anyone out there who have fixed similar problems.

Any help much appreciated.

Stay out of the registry if you don't know what you're
loking for. Right click on my computer and select
manage. Go to device manager and in the right pane expand
DVD/CD-Rom drives. Right click on drives ans select
properties. Select drivers tab and click on uninstall
drivers. Do not restart until finished. Before
restarting system go to
http://www.nero.com/us/updates.html and make sure you have
the latest versions of nero and incd. Uninstall any cd
software (like nero and direct cd). Restart and let
windowws pick up cd drives. If you don't need any special
features for cd writing don't install any third party
software as winxp can handle simple data and media cd
burning without it. if you want extras install the nero.
If windows doesn't pick up the cd drives check the
hardware compatability website to make sure xp supports
them. hope this helps.
