Problems with Attachments

I have Outlook 2002, SP3. I have two problems with attachments.
Perhaps they are related.

1) Whenever I try to add an attachment, I now get: "Out of memorh or
system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again." There
seemst to be plenty of memory for everything else. I have 512Mb of RAM and
plenty of hard disk. There are several standard programs running in my
system tray, but nothing else running otherwise. At the time of the error,
I have 251 Mb of physical memory and 198Mb of system cache available. I
have closed out everything in my system tray that I can, and that didn't
help.

2) I can't open JPG attachments that I receive. I can only save them and
open them from disk.

Problem 1 is new. Problem 2 has been going on for about 6 months. I
have run the inbox repair tool, and I can't find anything in the help file
that comes even close to addressing either of these problems.

Please help!!!!

None of those suggestions worked, including changing the file
association for the JPG files. I tried method 2 as well as method 1 and 3
with no improvement.

I am running WinXP (SP2), and Office 2002 (SP3). I Googled the problem
and found that others are having it as well, but I haven't found anyone who
has a solution yet. If it's a virus, it gets through ZoneAlarm Antivirus
and Windows Defender.

I am willing to uninstall and reinstall Outlook, but how can I save my
contacts?

HELP!

See if method 1 or 3 here helps

1st is to run the MAPI repair tool. 3rd is to create a new profile.

For 2: what operating system are you using? You might need to check
"confirm open after download" in the File Asscoiation for jpeg files.
