problems with attaching files

I am not certain if I have a Windows problem or a Thunderbird problem:
when I go to attach files, it always comes up thumbnails, even though I
want it to come up List. Can anyone point me the way?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I'm using Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 and XP SP2, and it seems to default to
List view for me, even if the default view for the folder is set to
something else.

Two things to try:

Open a common dialog box, change the view to the one you want, and then
hit Ctrl/Cancel. Yes, it's counterintuitive, but this solution is in Ed
Bott's book "Windows XP Inside and Out" and it works.
