drop down menus

I am embarrassed to say I have asked this question before (years ago),
but I cannot find the way to make the drop down menus to stay full - it
unnerves me every thing to navigate to a position and not see my target,
although it does come up after a few seconds. I have tried everything,
and any advice would be gratefully appreciated, and I will keep it in a
permanent folder so as not to bother you nice folks again. Happy New Year!

Deselect the option to use personalized menus. Right-click on the
Windows taskbar, Properties, Start Menu tab (presumably you have the
Classic mode selected), Customize, deselect to use personalized menues
(which shows the most recent items in the list and sticks a chevron at
the bottom of the list to go see the other less-used items).
