Problems viewing pages

Hi,

I'm working on a website in Frontpage and I'm having trouble viewing my
pages after I have compressed the files into a zip folder. I put it into a
zip folder so I could send what I've done so far to my boss. However when the
zip folder is double-clicked and the files are shown in My Computer, none of
the pages open up properly in Internet Explorer - the images do not show
(instead a red x) and the text is not in the same font as it should be.

But when I open up the files in Frontpage and preview the pages in the
browser (which views them in Internet Explorer too), they open up perfectly
with all the images etc.

So I can't understand why the webpages can't be viewed properly after being
opened from the zip/compressed file. Can anyone advise?

Regards,
liverlass.

Each web page is a single text file with HTML code. Images and other
objects are their files. The HTML has pointers to to the image files and
their locations. Te browser will find the images and display them
correctly-if thyme are at the specified location.

You need to also zip and send the image files that go with that web page.

The quickest way in assembling web pages for off-lien view, view the web
page in the browsers and save it to your desktop as "web page complete."
the browser wail create an associated folder with the "linked" images
so that the page will didplay correctly. Then you zip both the HTML
file, say savedpage.html and the created folder, savedpage_files.

Whenever I have to get approval before a launch, (usually new site) I make a
folder on the server and then convert folder to a subweb. I then put
together the site. When I need to demonstrate site, I point the customer and
your case, the boss, to the web address that no one knows.

Example http://www.yoursite.com/test

After approval has been made, then simply open the subweb and then publish
to the domain name

NOTE: You can set the subweb to disallow "anonymous" viewing and then add
your boss with a user and password to view site via his browser in real time
loading and function. No one else will be allowed to view this subweb.

Hope this helps

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I only half understood your explanation however,
so I hope you can still help me. (I'm new to website design). I opened up one
of the webpages in Frontpage and previewed it in the browser in Internet
Explorer. I saved the file as “web page complete†to my desktop as
‘Diabetes’. You then mentioned that the browser will create a folder
containing the linked images for that saved page. I can create the new zip
folder and drag the saved ‘Diabetes’ page from my desktop into it to zip it
but I don’t know how to get the folder created by the browser to be dragged
into the zip folder also, as you mentioned I should do. Where would I find
this created folder?
Many thanks,
liverlass

Hi, Many thanks for your reply. As I am new to website design, I wouldn't
really know where to start with your solution - I think I'd need really
simple instructions to guide me through what to do! I wouldn't know how to
make a folder on the server for example. Did I mention that I work from home?
Everything I do has to be sent via email, so I'd really like my boss to see
how the website is looking, even though it isn't published yet to the server.
Hope you can still help.
Regards,
liverlass.

If you used the the Browser (not FP) to save the page as diabetes.htm or
daiabetes.html and selected as "Web Complete" for the save as option,
you will also have a folder called diabetes_files in the same location
you saved the web page.

Hi Michael,

I’m still having trouble trying to solve my problem – probably because it is
the first website I have attempted. I do not have anything else already
published on the server to put on subwebs/sub folders so I don’t really know
where to start. I haven’t done this before. As I work from home and cannot
get into the office, I’d like to email my website in its current form to my
boss so that he can view the pages but the images do not come up as he opens
the pages up. (He does not have Frontpage software on his computer like I
have to view my website so far).
Would your suggested solution still be appropriate to solve my problem. If
so, would my boss have to create a subfolder etc on his server if I sent him
the website files? Or if not, how should I prepare my files to send in a zip
folder so that he can open it up and be able to view the pages? Hope you can
help me again.
