Problems running chkdsk on laptop with external drives

I've now found out how to check the BIOS settings and there are no
settings that mention USB. Any more ideas?

Hmmm, that's odd, normally there are legacy settings and boot settings.
Sorry, nothing further for getting chkdsk to work. Have you had a look
to see if there other suitable programs?

I just bought a PCMCIA USB card, plugged it into my laptop and plugged
the hard disk into the card, and chkdsk worked fine. Go figure!
