Problems - Registry & Software

I have a program that stopped working without any known reason.
The program is UFile Pro 2006 from Dr Tax Software Inc. [http://www.drtax.ca].
The program suddenly would not allow me to access it. The message that I
keep getting is “This application has failed to start because the application
configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the
problem.â€
Unfortunately, it doesn’t.
I tried several different methods to repair it, including running the
application’s repair function, as well as by uninstalling and reinstalling it
and the program updater – all to no avail.
I downloaded the program again from the site. Another attempt, I obtained
and used the CD for install. I even took the precaution of disconnecting
from the internet, to shut off my firewall and antivirus before installing –
to avoid any conflict.
I tried several different ways of uninstalling: (1) I ran uninstall from
the application. (2) Another time, I used the Windows Program Uninstaller.
Nope.
In all cases—no matter which method of uninstalling—it seems the directory
remained behind, and it did not remove registry values.
I eventually used Registry Editor to remove it.
I finally had to give up. HELP!!

Your best bet for help is the program maker's tech support since the problem
appears to be with the program and not XP.

Ron,

I have contacted the company, which unfortunately is notoriously slow in
providing technical support by e-mail only. Interestingly enough, I also had
their 2005 tax software program installed, and it continues to work fine.
Unfortunately, changes in government forms and legislation make it useless
after that year!

And what specific troubleshooting steps did the software's
manufacturer's technical support have you try?
