Probably dirty or wearing out. Try the discs on another
system just to be sure they're readable and if so, try
blowing out your laptop drive with compressed air. Beyond
that it's probably time to buy a new drive.

Or if you feel really adventurous you can try cleaning the lens
which means getting some cotton buds and white spirit, dismantlin
the drive, gently cleaning the lens then allowing it to thoroughl
dry before re-assembling and testing

I've done this many times with desktop drives and never had a problem
Nevertheless, it isn't for the faint hearted

What is "white spirit"

Pure alcohol based liquid - doesn't smear or smudge and non abrasive
Your local hardware store should be able to sort you out, as long a
you don't go in with a dirty mack and ask for it in a brown paper ba
suitable for drinking out of. You can also try with methylated spirit
but you may get a little smearing with that
