problems powering up (sometimes)

Hi,

I recently put together a new comp and seem to have the annoyance that
sometimes it wont power up. I have to press the power button 5 or 6 times
before it fires up. Have tried 3 different power supplies on it. First a
500W which after the problem arose I figured it was the PSU. Replaced it
with a 300W and now have a 400W in it (I had a few lying around to try).
Second thing one would try I suppose is possibly a faulty power switch, but
the funny thing is it only happens after I do some fiddling inside with the
power cable disconnected. Then it happens. Never seems to happen when the
power to the MB is always present. So disconnect from power and problem
arises. Leave power to PSU on and all is ok. I'm worried I might have
damaged the MB while placing it in the case :( Anybody have any ideas about
this one?

Thanks for any pointers.

One thing which might be relevant, when it powers up *after* the difficulty
it always goes into the BIOS screen.
