Problems opening PDF Files as e-mail attachments! Help

G

Guest

I just got my new Dell XPS notebook with Windows XP Media edition.

My question/issue: I cannot open adobe PDF files that are e-mail
attachments. This is strange for at least two reasons: (1) I have downloaded
PDF files from the internet with no problems; (2) My older desktop has no
problem opening the same PDF file (an e-mail attachment) but I cannot open
the PDF file via my XPS (same e-mail, same file). When I click to open the
file, the Adobe program begins to open and then NOTHING! It says "finished,"
but it is completely blank.

Anyone know what is happening and what I can do to fix this? Is there
another forum I should direct my question to?

Thanks,

John Dennis

Have you tested Adobe on other pdf files?

Are there any Warning / Error Reports in the Application
or System logs of Event Viewers relating to the problem?

An alternative to Adobe is Foxit.

Far less hassle than Adobe!

Dear Gerry,

Thanks for your post.

I am not sure what you mean by "have you tested Adobe on other pdf files?"

I have NO PROBLEMS opening other Adobe pdf files that I have, for instance,
downloaded from the internet. In addition, I have no problem downloading the
exact Adobe pdf file (e-mail attachment) from another XP computer in my
office. I just don't see why this Adobe PDF file will not open on my new
Dell laptop. Makes no sense. When I try to do so, I see the Adobe program
open and then nothing. No message, just blank screen. I should be able to
do this. Do you know where else I may get the answer to this problem?

Thanks again.

jd,

i'm not sure if media edition would be the same as when it is with the
regular xp home/pro editions.

further, i am just assuming that the email client you are referring to would
be outlook express.

if this is the case, try the following: open outlook express, click tools >
options > security tab > uncheck do not allow attachments to be saved...

i hope this helps.

regards!

pdf is a file extension that Adobe has a capability to open.
However, there are other programmes that use the pdf extension

http://www.filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=pdf

Ask the source of the file what programme was used to create it?

Is your anti-virus programme set to scan incoming mail?

What email programme are you using and what version?

Yes. I have no problems at all viewing other Adobe PDF files (like those
that came with Dell documentation). Problem comes when I try to open a PDF
file via e-mail. And again, my older computer opens this file with no
problems.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks

In Outlook Express uncheck the option in Tools, Options, Security,
Virus Protection regarding Attachments. However, I would uncheck
for reading only attachment for expected attachments from known
sources and recheck it after dealing with the specific attachments.
