I have tried several times to install the windows update
security patch which would fix the vulnerability being
exploited by that pesky little MSBlast worm. Problem is
whenever I try to install this update on my laptop I get
the following error message:
"Setup could not verify the integrity of the file
Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service is
running on this computer"

I have followed the advice outlined in Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article #'s 822798 and 326815. Niether has
fixed the problem. . I still get the error message
whenever I try to install the patch. I know this problem
needs to be fixed before I can do anything else regarding
this worm which has been a real pain to me since Monday
(trying to constantly reboot my system and such whenever
Im connected to the internet). Does anyone know of
anything else I can try? Any advice is greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance,
MJ

i installed the update yesterday with no problem, but had
to restore my system due to another unrelated app to a
couple days ago... when i try to re-install the update, i
get this same error message now..

whats up? is the MS update corrupted?

Rename the folder windows\system32\catroot2 and reboot. You can then
delete the renamed folder - a new one will have been made which the
service can handle

Then get - only - Q817287 and install it, which should now be OK. It
is itself the cure; you should then be able to carry on with other
updates, and the problem will not recur
