problems getting to desktop

okay...i load up my computer and it's fine but then after
it goes through the Windows XP cycle thing, it messes
up....every like five seconds, the computer goes black
and then comes back on...

what's up? i have to restart my comp every time it happens

Look in the event viewer for possible explanatory messages.
